On Sunday Hastings Colts travelled to Heathfield in the preliminary round of the under 18's Sussex Cup.
Due to a mini rugby tournament being held on Heathfields main ground, the match was relocated to the Waldren ground. This pitch complete with a slope more suited to winter Olympics was a new experience to Hastings and the first 10 minutes of the match was dominated by Heathfield who scored a try through their strong back line.
Again, as in previous weeks the shock of the opposition score woke the colts up, a series of drives by the forwards and backs saw Hasings set up camp in the Heathfield 22. Under pressure Heathfield gave away 2 penalties that were converted by Ben Lee.
Soon after the penalties the forwards set up a ruck on the Heathfield line and the Hastings scrum half Dillon Newell sniped over to score a try.
Playing up the slope in the second half Hastings continued their first half form, again with backs and forwards threatening the Heathfield line. From a break by the backs the quick support of the forwards resulted in Jacob McDonagh powering over to score a try.
Final score Heathfield 5 - Hastings 16.
The Colts are now looking forward to taking on Heathfield for the second successive week at home (William Parker) in the league (Kick off 1.00 pm).
