Hastings Colts resumed their league programme with an away trip to East Grinstead.
Showing signs of lack of match practise Hastings spent the first 5 minutes camped in their own 22m area, this pressure resulted in a try under the posts by East Grinstead which was duly converted.
This early set back galvanised Hastings into action with the pack taking control and the backs running hard at the resilient Grinstead defence. From a quickly taken penalty Jacob MacDonagh powered over to score a try, which was converted by captain Ben Lee.
The pressure from Hastings forced Grinstead into conceding a penalty that was converted by Lee.
In one of the best moves of the match from a solid scrum Hastings used the blind side to open up the Grinsted defence for Lee to score another try, 15 points to 7 at half time.
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with the H&B forwards carry well enabling the backs to challenge East Grinstead defence and Hastings
were unlucky to score as both Callum Davison and Tom Vincent were held up over the line.
It was not until the final minute that the strong defence by the H&B centre partnership of Davison and Griffen forced an error in the Grinstead back line that was gathered by Chis Stern who sprinted 45m to score, this was again converted by Lee.
Final score East Grinstead 7 Hastings & Bexhill Colts 22.
The Colts continue to develop and are becoming a very strong side. Next week Sunday 31st Jan the Colts travel to Crawley to play a rearranged league fixture.
