Hastings & Bexhill's second XV started the match in their traditional way, which is slowly!
They failed to make any impression on the Uckfield team until 19 minutes into the match when ex skipper Andy Sanders drove through a determined defence to open the scoring. Shortly afterwards skipper Andy Dalton went over for a try.
A long period of H&B pressure ended for the home team after a knock on near the Uckfield line saw the referee play a good advantage by allowing Uckfield to pick up the ball and move it through the backs, scoring under the posts.
After this H&B struggled to take control of the game and it wasn't until 39 minutes into the game that centre Matt Bumpus scored H&B's third try, this time converted by Percy Fitzgerald allowing the home team to end the half 17 - 7 ahead.
After a stern half time talk from coach Gary Walsh the team started to play percentage and, with injuries to several key Uckfield players, stretched their lead with tries from Robbie Simmons, Andy Dalton, Josh Grainger, Will Howard-Smith and Percy Fitzgerald, who also converted four of the tries.
The H&B coach Gary Walsh praised the Uckfield players who never let up with their defence and if things had gone their way in the first half could have scored more tries to make it a far closer contest than the final score reflects.
