The thoughts of the team were on reversing a narrow defeat in the league by the visitors this weekend. However the team management were intent on just improving the team and progressing through to the next round of the Sussex Vase competition.
H & B IIs were able to, again, put out a very strong team. The same team which is now growing in confidence week after week. The mood within the team is now a winning mentality with quality throughout.
H & B set their stall out in the opening minutes with the pack showing more of the power and control which is becoming a trade mark. Mauling the opposition up the pitch at will, Matt Harboard barking instructions at his forwards. This allowed the backs time and space to run at will.
Man of the match Aidy Mahoney with a powerful run by the number 8 and Ben Hanny, who covered almost every inch of the pitch, scored in the first half.
The defensive workload from the whole team was immense this week, with Uckfield rarely troubling the Hastings line.
The second half continued in the same way with Dom Sewell, with his first try for 2 years driving over powerfully, and Dave Kemp-Milham scoring under the posts. Kemp-Milham only kicking one conversation in a dismal display with the boot.
"To keep Uckfield to Nil this week shows our defence is getting stronger each week, Lewes also failed to score the week before. Going forward the pack are simply unstoppable at the moment" said Skipper Kemp-Milham, "with a home game against Crowbrouogh, who are top of our league, we now have a great opportunity to take this momentum into the league. I feel that we now have every chance to progress all the way in the Vase competition."
