Hastings and Bexhill 3 Uckfield 8

Hastings and Bexhill second team played host to the league leaders Uckfield and were able to pick a very strong team despite losing several players to the first team.

The conditions were perfect for a game at William Parker and the players were certainly up for it.

The away team took the lead with a penalty only to be brought back level by the increasing accurate boot of the man of the match Ben Lee.

Hastings had the run of the game and should have had the beating of the opposition with almost all the possession and were camped out in the Uckfield half for long periods of the game. Only the kicking game of the Uckfield Fly-Half and the poor discipline of the home side eased the pressure on their line.

After a rare flowing move from Uckfield they score the only try of the game in the corner.

"We beat ourselves today I think" said Captain Dave Milham "we had so much of the ball in the right areas, but gave away too many penalties. There are still lots of positives to take from the game and I feel that we will be in the mix at the right end of the table come the end of the season."

The seconds have another hard game this weekend with an away game at Heathfield.

Team: O'Connor, Carver, Granville, Saunders, Ward (Dawes), Roache, Barber, Mahoney, Smith, Milham, Stimson (Magidan), Hanny, Pearce, Brewster (Hollingsworth), Lee.
