Hastings and Bexhill II 61 - Lewes III 0

The "on off" nature of this away league fixture due to the weather did nothing to distract Hastings and Bexhill second team this week. The team is continuing to grow in skill and confidence every time they set foot on the pitch.

The pitches at Lewes were declared unplayable on Friday night, however by mid-morning the game was back on.  The referee deciding that despite the rain the game would be played, however the Australian center partnership of Rookyard and Tipire could not believe that it was possible to have that much rain in such a short space of time.

"We were able to put out what is becoming my first choice team again this weekend" said Skipper Dave Kemp-Milham "the team is really starting to pull together both on saturday and at training".

Lewes were unable to field a front row from the start giving the visitors a 10 point start and uncontested scrums.

From the kick off H&B dominated at every position on the pitch. The forwards mauling the opposition at their will.

Man of the Match Matt Harboard, playing at scrum-half, controlled the tempo of the game incredibly in the windy conditions allowing the backline time and space to cut through Lewes with ease.

With the wind against them in the first half H&B scored three times with Aidy Mahoney, Brampton and Harboard going over the tie line. After a very short half time talk from team manager Gary Walsh with the words of "control, power and skill" in their ears the visitors using the wind to their advantage ran in another 6 ties. 2 more for Harboard to complete his hat-trick, another for Brampton who had an outstanding game at full-back and one each for Northern, Kemp-Milham and finally Pete Mahoney.

Kemp-Milham managed 3 conversions in tricky conditions.

"So many players did well this week.  Nunn returning from injury, Cullingford stepping into the front row at short notice, Northern carried the ball all day. The second row of Saunders and MacManus are growing together and the back row control the fringes so well." Said Kemp-Milham "welcoming Whittingdon and Stevens into the seconds with their pace is fantastic"

The seconds are at home next week in the cup against Uckfield hoping to reverse the result from 4 weeks ago.

Team: Northern, Nunn, Cullingford, Saunders, MacManus, P.Mahoney, Umpleby, A.Mahoney, Harboard, Kemp-Milham, Stevens, Rookyard, Tipire, Whittingdon, Brampton, Maining, Brewster.
