Welcome to the Youth Section of Hastings and Bexhill. As a club we want to build on last season successes and encourage more youngsters to play Rugby, one of the quickest expanding sports across the country. Using this page you will find details regarding our teams, as well as a few of our Club policies. For the parent or guardian of any child who is new to Rugby and holds images of their child perhaps becoming involved in the physical 15-a-side encounters that are a part of the adult game, they need have no worries. The game is divided into two sections Mini (under 6 to Under 12) and Youth (under 13 to Under 17) each year, as the player progresses they will be safely taught new techniques. Mini rugby (under six to under 12 age range) is coached in accordance with "The Continuum" a training programme designed by the Rugby Football Union whereby different elements and skills are introduced to players as they progress through the age groups. Players in the Under 7 and Under 8 age groups are coached "Tag Rugby." This form of the game involves no physical contact and allows the players to develop ball handling, evasion and team play skills. As the players get older tackling, scrummaging and line outs are introduced to the game. Further, team and pitch sizes increase until the players are ready for the 15-a-side game which they will, go on to play in the Youth Section from 13 years old. This allows both girls and boys to learn Rugby in a safe and enjoyable way. All of the Club's Lead coaches, and the majority of assistant coaches, involved in coaching "contact" have been awarded the RFU Level 1 qualification. To obtain this qualification the individual must demonstrate an ability to coach rugby in a safe and fun manner. Furthermore our ongoing programme of Child protection and general child welfare policies ensures the junior players are in the safest hands that they possibly could be. Please take a few minutes to look at a few of our polices. To join our growing and exciting Club is easy, the season starts on Sunday 2 September and you can either, contact one of the coaches listed for the relevant age group, use the youth contact email on this Web site for more information or just turn up on a Sunday at 10:30 and ask for Tracey Brewer. No special kit will be required initially other than a pair of boots, though we strongly recommend the use of a mouth guard which can be bought quite cheaply either at the Club or any reasonable sports shop.
