H&B RFC Summer Fun Day 4 June 2011

Bright sunshine eventually burned away the clouds on another beautiful early summer day for the annual Fun Day at H&B RFC. As with last year (and what seems to be a tradition already), H&B hosted South-East London side Footscray RFC who ended their Minis season with a tour to the south coast.

50 Minis rugby players from Footscray and H&B were put through their paces with some RFU rugby skills exercises, before being split into mixed teams for some games of Rugby Volleyball and Rugby Netball. After working off a healthy lunch, the players all had a turn pitting their strength against each other in a Tug-O-War contest (lots of the parents and coaches had a chance to 'pull' as well, but a combination of athletic Footscray coaches and H&B Tug-O-War veterans won that contest!). And then came the fun (wet) part with the players playing some rounds of Dodge-Sponge before taking on the challenge of the Gauntlet - an 'Its A Knock-Out' assault course.

H&B Minis Chairman Martyn Amess, and Sandra Soler-Gomez - ex-Saracens player and Footscray co-ordinator, especially enjoyed the thrills of the giant water slide. Fellow Footscray coach Jamie Shiels said; "Once again H&B pulled out all the stops, we had a fantastic day with great games and great people. Footscray prides its self on being the friendliest club in kent and I think we have met our counterpart in East Sussex. I cant thank Jason, Martyn and David enough."

H&B coach Jason Lusted, along with fellow organiser and H&B Club Chairman "Sir" David Hirst, said: "We were blessed once more with a great turnout for a great day of fun. A lot of new, younger H&B Minis got to train and play with a successful club like Footscray, and throw wet sponges at the coaches too!"

Special thanks go to the Many parents and helpers who made the Fun Day exactly what it said it would be. A lot of hard work went on to ensure the smooth running of the day, with lots of grown-ups getting their hands dirty, their voices roused and (on the water slide) their bums wet. Particular nods go to the following Minis Coaches:

Paul Phelps - Deluxe Burger Flipper and Superchef
Roger Kingston - Gauntlet Blocker and Equipment Gofer
John Ludlum - Rugby Volleyball Ref and Water Cannon Marksman Sniper

H&B RFC are training throughout the closed season, and welcome younger players of all ages to an already highly regarded Junior Section. For more details, please see the website.
