On Saturday, 10th April, Hastings & Bexhill RFC opened their new balcony built in memory of David Northen, who sadly died aged 25 whilst still an active 1st XV player.
Having played against Folkestone in January 2009, David died in his sleep the next day. A strong player within the team and a popular figure around the Club his death touched many members. In recognition of this, his family and friends kindly donated funds to help the Club begin the process of building a balcony on the front of the clubhouse, something that had been talked about for many years.
H & B Chairman David Hirst said “The balcony will be enjoyed by all our members and enhances the experience of every visitor to our club. A very suitable way of remembering Dave. Our thanks go to his family, friends and Laing O’Rourke for allowing us to achieve this so soon."
The balcony was opened by Mark Woolcott, South East Operations Director, for Laing O’Rourke at 14:30 immediately prior to last match of the season, fittingly against Folkestone, at 15:00.
